Weight Management

  • Obesity is simply when there is excess amount of fatty tissue that can result in increased health risks and is also defined as a body mass index BMI] ≥30 kg/m2. Obesity is a chronic, progressive disease prevalent in more than 40% of adults in the United States, with prevalence expected to increase to nearly 50% by 2030. More than 7 in 10 U.S. adults are overweight or obese, which increases their risk of heart disease. An additional 31% of adults are overweight (BMI 25.0 to <30.0 kg/m2). Being overweight or obese increases the risk of developing and dying from cardiovascular disease (CVD). Although cardiovascular mortality has decreased over the last two decades, obesity-related CVD has tripled from 1990 to 2020.
